Press reviewsAfrica House was featured in the popular Bradt Travel guide, Zanzibar, Pemba & Mafia 2009 Edition with the following review:Reopened in 2003 following extensive restoration, this sea-facing hotel ranks among the most popular places to stay in Zanzibar Town. Situated along the Shangani waterfront, Africa House served as the English Club from 1888 until the end of the colonial era, but is perhaps best known for its expansive balcony bar, which remains an ever-popular sundowner venue offering a winning combination of reasonably priced (albeit not cheap) cocktails, a cracking ocean view & tasty bar food. It also displays some interesting 'before & after' photographs documenting the building's history & restoration. Aside from its celebrated meeting point, the spacious en-suite rooms are a mix of stylish traditional décor & modern facilities (satellite TV, AC & minibar). The tiled floors may seem incongruous with the antique beds but the rooms are cool, clean & functional, & a particularly good low-season deal.
